Why Feel-Good Phrases Aren’t Always God’s Will

Hey guys, it’s been a while and I’m so happy to be back! 💛I recently moved, started a new job, and life was full of chaos, but I’m finally back to my routine. Through all of it, Jesus never left me… so how could I leave Him? I can’t stop sharing my love for Him. Honestly, I can’t run away from it even if I tried... my heart longs for Him.

Today I want to write to you about something I hear all the time, and I want us to think about it together. What do we think about this? Is this really the advice we want to live by?

Phrases like:

  • “Do what makes you happy.”

  • “Follow your heart.”

  • “Live your truth.”

They sound cute, they sound empowering… but as Catholic women (and men), should this really be the advice we hold onto? Or give to others?

The Truth About Worldly Advice

Here’s the thing, as followers of Christ, we’re not called to give people worldly advice. We’re called to give them the Word.

When we tell someone to just “do what makes them happy,” we risk pointing them toward something temporary… something that might feel good for a moment but could pull them away from God’s will. Happiness isn’t bad, but joy rooted in Jesus is so much better, because it’s unshakable.

Why “Follow Your Heart” Isn’t Enough

The Bible actually warns us that “the heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9). Without God guiding it, our hearts can lead us to places we were never meant to go. Instead of “follow your heart,” what if we said, “Follow Jesus with all your heart”? That’s a path that never leads to regret.

There’s Only One Truth

“Live your truth” is another big one. But truth isn’t a “me” or “you” thing. Truth is a Jesus thing. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). If our “truth” doesn’t match up with His, it’s not truth at all.

You Were Made for More

The world will tell you to chase whatever feels right in the moment — but God knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). He already gave you a unique, beautiful purpose long before you even took your first breath. You don’t have to create it. You just have to discover it with Him.

So Let’s Give Better Advice

Instead of giving people “feel-good” quotes, let’s point them to the One who gives eternal joy, real love, and true life. Let’s be the friends who remind each other:

  • You are wonderfully made.

  • God’s plan for you is already in motion.

  • His way will always be better than ours.

Because at the end of the day, our calling is not to lead people toward self, but toward Christ.

💛 Lord, help me to give advice that leads people to You. Guard my heart from being swayed by the world’s ideas of happiness and truth. Show me Your will and

ree

give me the courage to follow it... even when it’s hard. Amen.
